Kimono is a traditional Japanese garment

The kimono is a traditional Japanese garment that was worn until the Meiji period (1868-1912), before the Western clothing culture was introduced. Its form has changed in various ways over time.

The most glamorous and complex kimono costumes are made of silk and worn by the Heian period (794-1185) aristocrats, and the style can now be seen mainly in the imperial family and in traditional events in Kyoto.

With the introduction of Western restoration culture in the Meiji era, the kimono gradually became a garment worn on special occasions such as weddings and funerals, and is now reserved for even more special occasions such as coming-of-age ceremonies and weddings.

Recently, high-quality kimonos of the past have become relatively easy to purchase on the Internet, and interest in kimonos has been growing again, especially among young people.

Just as there are winter clothes and summer clothes, there are different types of kimonos that can be worn in different seasons. Recently, the comfortable cotton yukata have become popular as summer outfits.

Nowadays, yukatas are worn to festivals, fireworks displays, Bon dances, and other events.

In Japan, many kimono shops have disappeared due to the shrinking market. Now, due to the influence of manga, it has become popular in the U.S. and Europe. I am introducing the traditional Japanese kimono here in the U.S. so that people will have a chance to see it today.
